In this Video Blog, I am going to discuss about my interpretation of the lower eyelid surgery using the trans-conjunctival approach which I have refined over the past 26 years into a “near” blood-less procedure.
Obviously concept of “blood-less surgery” borders nearly on an oxymoronic scale since as soon as the skin gets disrupted either unintentionally while cooking with a sharp utensil or while making a precise incision using a surgical scalpel, there will always be bleeding…. However, the concept of “near blood-less surgery” is a reality that many of us in the surgical field practice everyday. For quite a while, I have been promoting “minimal bruising” and “minimal swelling” surgery by sharing pictures or testimonials of patients immediately following surgery.
Today I would like to take this discussion one step further and share a video blog of beginning to the end on how we achieve this “near blood-less surgery” step by step. It will be divided into many sections, some short, some long. Perhaps some parts will be a bit too graphic, so please be aware. There will be short introduction and a testimonial immediately after completion of surgery.
I hope that at the end of this video blog, many of you will understand that this so termed “near blood-less” lower eyelid surgery does truly exist; and, that many surgeons like myself who pride in performing meticulous surgical techniques can achieve extremely natural results using this type of minimalist, meticulous technique, on a daily basis. Obviously the techniques and artistic sense of each individual surgeon will vary. I am simply sharing with you my unique interpretation. Finally in full disclosure, I would like to keep this video blog real and remind everyone that practice of medicine and surgery is definitely not a perfect science nor series of perfect technical maneuvers. As rare as they occur, I am humbled by my own share of bruising and prolonged swelling on some of my patients despite my best efforts. However most of my patients are able to enjoy quick recovery due to minimal bruising and swelling using the “near blood-less”lower eyelid surgical technique that I have been able to refine over the past 26 years.
